Dear Friend,
I have went over and over in my head about how to show you just how grateful I am to have you in my life but nothing seems to work. It all sounds meaningless when just said casually or even with a few drinks in us. So I’ve decided to write this to thank you for everything that we have been through this far.
For the sleepless nights, countless laughs, silly fights and everything in between. You have been there since before we even knew who we were. Just two kids anxious to be introduced to each other as we were both convinced we might not get along. How wrong were we?
I honestly don’t laugh with anyone the way I do with you. It’s one of the greatest things about having a best friend. The ability to look at rain fall and find something funny about it. Not a single other person I call friend can do that to me. It’s just one of the many reasons I feel so at ease with you. I also think it goes without saying that you are one of the most creative people I have ever met. Once you get something in your head you just roll with it and I love that about you. Remember the time you made an elephant out of blue tack? Who even thinks of this stuff?! I just know you’re going to go far!
It’s scary and amazing at the same time, to realise how old we’re getting and seeing how our futures are staring to take shape. You’ve gone and done the one thing I would never have the courage to do. You are solely dependant on yourself. You pay your own bills, cook your own food, look after your own house, sleep in your own bed at night. I have always needed somebody there which I’m aware is a terrible weakness of mine. Not you though, you are such a strong person and while I’m so proud of that, I also envy you slightly.
Although we have been closer on and off throughout the years you have always been my person. Not once have you ever turned me away when I needed you, even when I haven’t been a good friend myself. Don’t think I have just put them times in the past. They’re firmly at the forefront of my mind so as that I won’t ever make those mistakes again. Now this might all seem slightly cheesy but honestly I’m aware I haven’t always had your back and for that I’m truly sorry.
Seeing how proud your parents are of you at your 21st party was something I was glad to witness as I could see you getting a little too drunk to see it yourself. They have done an incredible job in raising you Pamela Hoban but I’ll have to give you some of the credit too I suppose. I hope you see how far you have come, these last few years especially.
I love you with all my heart and I can’t wait to see what the rest of our futures hold for us. Happy 21st birthday girlfriend. I’m sure we’ll soon cheers to that (again)!
